Leadership is everywhere!

At Hermann Elementary School we believe that All students can Learn, Grow, Lead, and Succeed when we work Together.  We believe that when students find importance in their work and special job for the school, it makes them feel valued and confident.  When students demonstrate leadership and build their confidence, all other academic achievements will follow.  Many districts are implementing a leadership program using roles for upper grades and middle schools.  Here at Hermann Elementary, we begin in Kindergarten by allowing students to select and work in a leadership job.  Every student in grades K-4 have a leadership job at all times.  All of our teaching staff assist with a leadership group, meeting about twice monthly.    However, the students are the ones guiding the projects and outcomes of each leadership group.  Students work very hard in each of their roles and also learn the value of service toward others while in their role.  The ideas and projects that the students have produced are truly amazing!  This program is based on the ideas of Steven Covey, from his book 7 Habits of Happy Kids.  Guidance lessons directly teach the 7 Habits as a fresh framework that also encompass our district character traits.  All staff reinforce the habits in daily language and modeling.  Quarterly, Habits are Highlighted in assemblies where leadership groups present how they have been practicing one of the 7 Habits.  Students are recognized for their hard work and creative ideas while staff and parents are inspired.
